East Kent is the only schoolboy motocross club based in Kent. We race at various tracks in Kent, Surrey and E Sussex. Our riders range from 6 years old to late 40’s! We run fortnightly in the summer and monthly in the winter.
Once a year we hold a meeting at the famous Canada Heights track near Swanley – this is the only chance that schoolboy riders get to ride this marvellous track if they are not taking part in any of the national championships. We have a full calendar and also take part in all the BSMA events as well – the Semi-Finals, Finals and the Team Event. New members are always welcome – please contact Ann by phone or email for more details.web address www.ekssc.co.uk

A Sandtastic Day
Mepal Round 10
Report by Tracey Whittam, Photos by Ann Cooper
It was a change of venue for the East Kent club as they travelled up to Mepal to stage round ten of their summer championship. All the riders were up for the challenge and couldn’t wait to hit the sandy track, which was well prepared and waiting for the action to start.
First out for their practice laps and then straight into their first races were the Autos and the Juniors, with the Autos riding a shortened track. But for both groups the day’s racing must have seemed more like a beach track rather than the flat lands of Cambridgeshire.
Once the Autos were off the start gate it was going to be a race for the points between Charlie Burt, Jack Nixon and Jake Sindon. In race one and three the boys finished with Charlie 1st, Jack 2nd and Jake 3rd with Jack taking 1st in race two to be followed home by Charlie 2nd and again Jake taking 3rd and that’s how they stayed overall too.
In the Juniors little Gary Ashley was to cause a sand storm as he won all three races beating Tom Lockhart into 2nd place to give Gary his first ever overall win in the Junior class with Lewis Cloud taking 3rd.
Up next were the Small Wheels, which again saw Mitchell Lewis taking all three wins giving him another 1st overall win. Putting the pressure on Mitch during the races were Jamie Clarke and Aaron Ongley who were to finish in 2nd and 3rd overall. Also well done to Blu Compton who got a 2nd in race two and a 3rd place win in race three and also to Marni Saunders who is riding well, what a gutsy little lady!
After the Small Wheels came the Big Wheel 85s and once again it was Jack Eldridge who set a blinding pace as he roared round the track to win all three races to give him 1st overall. In race one Jack fell twice and still managed to come back and win with Jack Norman and Toby Stubberfield in 2nd and 3rd. Race two saw Dan guy 2nd and Steven Robinson 3rd and in race three Steven took 2nd with Joe Russell in 3rd to give Steven 2nd overall and Dan in 3rd overall.
The Seniors were next and were exciting to watch as there were three different winners and all three winners rode extremely well. In race one Lewis Dowsett led from the start to be chased by Kieran Clarke but when Lewis fell in the last lap Kieran was able to snatch the victory win and well deserved too! With Dave Taylor 2nd and Dan Clarke in 3rd. Race two saw Dave take the win this time with Lewis in 2nd and Kieran 3rd and in race three Lewis took the win he had been waiting for with Kieran in 2nd and Dan once again in 3rd. Which meant overall Kieran took 1st with Dave in 2nd and Lewis in 3rd. Well done Kieran that was truly deserved - you have gone from strength to strength!
Lastly it was the turn of the Amx and Open groups, which in the Amx it was Arron Jenner who took 1st with Rowan Hill taking 2nd in all three races to give the boys 1st and 2nd overall. It was one a piece for 3rd for Adam Cooper, Dave Capper and Declan Burke during racing with Adam taking 3rd overall.
With the open group there was a welcome return to two “old boys”, Dan Arnold and Tony Cuddy. Both guys were very fast but it was Dan who was unbeatable to take all three wins to give him 1st overall with Tony to follow home in 2nd to take 2nd overall and in 3rd to take 3rd overall was our very own George Foames.
Many thanks go to the landowners and the committee also to the paramedics and best wishes go out to our injured riders for a speedy recovery and also good luck to all going to the BSMA finals.
