East Kent is the only schoolboy motocross club based in Kent. We race at various tracks in Kent, Surrey and E Sussex. Our riders range from 6 years old to late 40’s! We run fortnightly in the summer and monthly in the winter.
Once a year we hold a meeting at the famous Canada Heights track near Swanley – this is the only chance that schoolboy riders get to ride this marvellous track if they are not taking part in any of the national championships. We have a full calendar and also take part in all the BSMA events as well – the Semi-Finals, Finals and the Team Event. New members are always welcome – please contact Ann by phone or email for more details.web address www.ekssc.co.uk

East Kent SSC - Rd 5 Summer Champ - Staplehurst - 23rd May - Report

Sun, Sun, Sun Here It Comes

Well what can be said about the weather that greeted the East Kent club who held their 5th round of the Summer Championship at Staplehurst? The East Kent riders couldn’t have asked for a better day. Glorious sunshine and NO RAIN!! With the track well watered and adrenalin running high. Everyone was raring to go, go, go!
The Seniors were first out and as usual Shaun Springer was the man to watch, even on a borrowed bike. Recording two wins to give him first place overall. He won the first race easily but the second one was a harder challenge. Jordan Divall took the lead and held it for most of the race, but Shaun managed to literally fly past Jordan in the air on the last lap! John Eaton and David Taylor were equally close in third and fourth and ended on equal points, but John took the third spot in the end.
Race one of the AMX saw a flyer from Arron Jenner with a gutsy 2nd place for Adam Cooper and they were both a long way ahead of the rest of the pack. George Foames took the holeshot in race 2 and led from gate to flag, with Paul Wildman Willis trying everything he knew to get past. Arron took third to take the overall win with Paul in second and George in third.
The Big Wheels were out next onto the dusty track with great consistent riding by all riders. Jake Fry was the top rider this meeting with both podium spots. The battle for second was intense between Dan Packman, Dan Guy and, in the second race, Toby Stubberfield. The first race saw Daniel Packman take second and but Toby took the honours in the second race. In the end Dan P took second and Dan G third overall.
The Small Wheel group proved to be just as entertaining with Mitchell Lewis taking both wins followed home in both races by Aaron Bloomfield. But we had two different third riders in third spot. The honours went to Charlie Earley in the first race and Ryan Hayward in the second, and Ryan took the third place overall. This group is coming on by leaps and bounds this season!
Before I move onto the junior racing can I just say a big welcome to the three new members of the lapscoring team - John Eaton (senior), Lewis Roberts and Karl Johnson, who decided between them that they would lap score and back lap, yes back lap the junior race. And the Juniors proved to be a challenge for them! Tom Lockhart stamped his authority on the races with 2 holeshots and 2 wins – the rest could only follow. Gary Ashley rode a great first race to take second, but wasn't so lucky in the second and Reagan Brooks followed Tom home in that one. Reagan took second overall with Harry Arnold a good and consistent third.
Last of all were our little Auto riders, who again showed just what good riders they are. Jack Nixon was as fast as ever and unstoppable as he took both wins in style. Charlie Burt rode his heart out to take both second spots and ensure his place on the podium. Rhys Cooper had a great second race to take a well deserved third place.
A lot of dust meant that only two blocks of racing was possible. Many thanks to the Committee, the lapscorers, the points ladies and the land owners for the use of the track. A special thank you to the paramedics for their hard work and support to our injured riders. We all wish them well to a speedy recovery and a quick return to racing.
