East Kent is the only schoolboy motocross club based in Kent. We race at various tracks in Kent, Surrey and E Sussex. Our riders range from 6 years old to late 40’s! We run fortnightly in the summer and monthly in the winter.
Once a year we hold a meeting at the famous Canada Heights track near Swanley – this is the only chance that schoolboy riders get to ride this marvellous track if they are not taking part in any of the national championships. We have a full calendar and also take part in all the BSMA events as well – the Semi-Finals, Finals and the Team Event. New members are always welcome – please contact Ann by phone or email for more details.web address www.ekssc.co.uk

East Kent SSC - Rd 7 Summer Champ - Lamberhurst - 20th June - Report

Arron’s Over The “Moon”

The reworked Lamberhurst track seemed to go down a treat with the East Kent riders at round seven of the summer championships. Even though the day started cold, grey and overcast the condition of the track was spot on.
So with everyone itching to get racing under way the Juniors made their way down to the start gate. In race one all of the riders got away and Luke Horley was to get the first holeshot of the day. Luke was quickly passed by Tom Lockhart who led the whole race to get 1st place. Hot on Tom’s heels was Louis Close who chased Tom hard in second place until his bike seized near the end of the race, resulting in a DNF (unlucky Louis). Ashley Surridge followed Gary Ashley home. Race two again saw Tom up in front with the lead to finish in 1st place. Louis was ready for the chase on a borrowed bike lent by Gary Ashley. What good sportsmanship! Louis rode well and chased Tom hard but had to settle for 2nd place. Ashley was again just behind Louis giving him a run for his money. In the last race Tom took the lead in the first lap and stayed out in front for the whole race to give him a hat trick and first overall. Louis came through to take another 2nd place. Louis was followed home this time by Luke Hole Shot Horley for a well deserved 3rd place.

Next out were the Small Wheels and what a flying start by Mitchell Lewis who took the hole shot in race one and three. Mitchell was also to stretch his lead in all 3 races to give him three straight wins and first overall. Outstanding riding Mitch! Visitor Austin Eary had a great day’s racing to finish second in all three races behind Mitchell. Austin was to be chased home in race one by Taylor Smith and in races two and three by Jack Baldwin for 3rd place, giving Jack overall 3rd place.

The Big Wheels were to follow and it looked as if quite a race was going to be had in race one. Jake Fry took the hole shot and was up for the challenge to see if that first place win could be his. But it was Jack Eldridge who was to take the lead with Jake hot on his tail and behind Jake was Daniel Packman also looking for a taste of the action. Race one saw Jack 1st, Jake 2nd and Dan 3rd. Race two saw Jake out in front for the lead being chased by Toby Stubberfield. But the race was stopped after an accident and was rerun. In the restart of race two it was Jack Humber who took his first ever hole shot. Jack Eldridge once again grabbed the lead and was chased by Jake until bike trouble meant that he was going to have to retire from the race. This meant that Toby Stubberfield, was in for the chase and to hunt Jack down. But Jack kept his pace and was to ride home with the win and Toby in 2nd with visitor Steven Robinson settling with 3rd place. Race three again saw Eldridge up in front with Toby again chasing him for the lead. Toby worked hard but it wasn't to be his day. Eldridge took 1st place and first overall with Toby to settle for 2nd and Dan Guy to take 3rd place. At the end of race three racing for the day had to be stopped due to another accident. I am pleased to say that the rider is making a speedy recovery and all our best wishes go to him and his family.

Due to the accident the Seniors, Amx and Autos only got two race blocks for the day with their best results carrying over for their third round.

With both Jordan Divall and Shaun Springer on the gate in the Seniors it looked as if it would be anyone’s race. But Jordan got the holeshot and the early lead and stayed there throughout the race. Shaun chased hard to try and gain on him and the lead. As Jordan stayed ahead, Shaun had to settle for 2nd. Lewis Dowsett was close behind Springer with an excellent ride to take 3rd. Race two again saw a battle between Jordan and Shaun with Jordan again getting the edge on Shaun for 1st and first overall. Shaun again had to settle for 2nd to also give him second overall.
Dave Taylor and Jamie Austin Carter were both hard on the chase for third place but it was Dave who got the edge and took 3rd overall.

There was a buzzing in the Amx group with the return of Karl Johnson after a year away with an injury. Troy Beck and Rowan Hill were also back in the line up. In race one, Louis Waugh took the hole shot and the early lead. Behind Lewis was Arron Jenner who was hard on the case with Troy, Rowan and Wildman Willis just behind. Arron closed in on Lewis and reeled him in to take the lead but not for long as Lewis snatched it back. With Lewis back out in front Arron again had to work hard to try and get the lead. Arron was to be spurred on by his supporters for that extra push. Arron again fought hard and with encouragement from John Eaton Snr in the shape of a “moon”, Arron took the lead and the win. Louis had to settle for 2nd place but not without a fight from Rowan who chased Lewis home in 3rd place. Race two was to see Arron take the holeshot and the early lead. This time it was Wildman, Rowan and Louis doing the chasing which was exciting to watch. As the boys chopped and changed their positions. Louis was unlucky and made a mistake giving 2nd place to Rowan and in true Wildman style Paul Willis rode home in 3rd.

After the excitement from the Amx racing, it was hard to believe that the Autos could show the same standards. But they didn’t disappoint as they rode the whole track and not a shortened section. Once again off they rocketed to the first bend and it was Charlie Burt who took the holeshot and the leads from start to finish in both races to give him first overall. Jack Nixon and Jake Sinden had a great days racing between them as they both rode home with Jack to take two 2nd place with second overall and Jake to take two 3rd places to take third overall.

It was nice to see some of our other injured riders from previous meetings back in the paddock. Thanks to the paramedics for all their hard work and support, also to the land owners and all the committee. And to Steve Bliss – another new lapscorer! See you at Ringmer for round 8.
