Well, we finally made it!
What was to be the last round of the East Anglia winter championship finally took place at Wildtracks, Chippenham on Sunday. The weather had been so bad that we lost the previous two rounds and so this one turned out to be a winter meeting rather than a series.
The meeting went well though and although it was bitterly cold it stayed dry all day and the track improved all day long and by the last block it was in almost perfect condition.
The day started with the Autos, which was a bit of a gamble but worked well. The top three changed places all day, with no one getting a clear advantage but in the end Alfie Jones took the honours from Callam Murfitt with Freddie Wyart coming in a close third.
It was a very similar story in the Junior group. Buster Hart got the first place in the end with Harry Preston taking the second slot and Billy Carter coming in third.
Carl Budge took first place in the Small Wheel 85’s. Ryan Allison came a very close second from Drew Anderson in third. This was a small group but the racing was close throughout the day and I think everyone went home happy.
In the Big Wheel 85’s Tommie Schofield had a good first place, with two wins and a second. Conner Hughes had two seconds and a third and George Gregg-Pettit came in third with the other win of the day.
The seniors saw Russell Cramp in the top slot, with Daniel Souter in second and Daniel Patterson in third. It was a good turnout in this group and the racing was first class as it always is in this group.
Arron Jenner made a welcome comeback in the AMX group and took the first place with one win and two seconds. Brad Woodroffe took the second place with two wins and a third and the third place went to Rob Wood, with two thirds and a second. This was typical of the days racing in all the groups with places changing all the time.
The exception to the rule came in the AMX Open Group. Jason Morland took the top slot with three straight wins, Ben Talbot came a close second with three seconds with Junior Thomas in third.
The Snowball Trophy, which is the winter series trophy
The Vets group is being run with the AMX group this year but scored separately. Adrian Coppen took the first place from Rob hands in second.
Full race results are available on the My Laps web site.
The next East Anglia meeting will be the first round of the club championship at Mepal on 24th February.
